Death toll in Nepal nears 1,000, many feared trapped

A massive earthquake measuring 8.1 magnitude struck 80 km (50 miles) east of Pokhara in Nepal on Saturday. China Daily Website delivers the latest updates on the quake.

Three team members of Chinese Women's Mountaineering Team, including leader Ma Liyamu, have been confirmed dead in Nepal earthquake. The victims include two Sherpa ethnic people. Ma had lost contact with her team.

The epicenter was monitored at 28.2 degrees north latitude and 84.7 degrees east longitude, and the focus of the quake is 20 kilometers deep, according to China Earthquake Networks Center.
